A great place to stay if you want to visit Beamish Museum, which as we found can take a couple of days to explore fully. 20 minutes drive to Durham. Only a few minutes to Angel of the North. We cooked for ourselves, but did use an excellent local chippy one evening. Several fast food outlets there. Town centre within easy walking distance.
