My room was ready for me early, saving me trying to find a café seat somewhere in Portaferry on Bank Holiday Monday. Great view of the sunset over Strangford Lough in the evening and a great breakfast to see me off on the rest of my travels.

Proprietor was super-friendly. Room was modern and spotlessly clean but also comfortable and quiet. We ate both dinner and breakfast at The Artisan restaurant downstairs in same building as our room. Absolutely delicious modern take on both Irish and eclectic dishes. Great bakery across the street. Easy street parking.

Attractive scenery, interesting local history, friendly locals, peaceful. The only drawback was a shortage of places to eat out, especially after 7 p.m. I recommend The Bull and Claw pub for good food.

Great waterside town with limited facilities (places to eat) when we were there but the locals were great, parking is free and it still has a lot of locals living there - so much better than other locations that are nothing more than tourist dormitories. Great food and service at the hotel.
Not sure why more people don't go there (but glad they don't !!)
