Golden Lion Hotel, hotel in Stirling

The Golden Lion Hotel has welcomed guests, including royalty, for more than 200 years.

I love the feel of this old building. It’s what I would expect a hotel this age to look and feel like. The decor is warm and quiet and welcoming. It’s kind of a maze, but that is part of the charm. The location is right in the heart of the city and surrounded by lovely buildings. I adore the breakfast staff!

Clean comfortable and friendly. The staff made us feel completely welcome. Excellently crafted cocktails and very delicious food. We arrived and saw no need to leave to go anywhere else for the evening. After dinner, while our traveling companions went to bed, my husband and I stayed in the bar and felt quite at home playing a game.

Stirling exceeded our expectations. It was rich in history.

Stirling exceeded our expectations. It was rich in history. The locals were very friendly and helpful. There was a wide variety of restaurant options. Even the thrift stores were top notch. There were several options to enjoy entertainment. We highly recommend the Settle Inn (on St. Mary’s Wynd) the oldest ale house in town (300+yrs). We were very moved by the traditional folk music performed by the locals. We also recommend joining in on one of the free guided tours in the Castle. It’s a great way to get to know the gossip of the royals and renegades.

There is so much to see and to absorb if you love history...

There is so much to see and to absorb if you love history and want to know where your ancestors came from. Essential: talk to people wherever you go. There is so much to learn from those who staff the historic sites! Dee and Trisha were great sources of info. See Holy Rude Church and the connected graveyard. Wow! Always ask for the hidden or less seen places. The Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum is a quirky gem. (It has the oldest known football.) Things to remember: walking is great, but challenging. Taking a taxi sometimes makes you miss some of the things, however, like going through the graveyard at Holy Rude.

I really liked Stirling however the stress of being unable to access the Mar Apartment as pin to access was not sent and which we had paid for through Booking.com and having to go searching for alternative accommodation at 8pm was the most stressful and upsetting thing I have ever experienced on holiday. The owner was uncontactable although I tried to call her 20 times and sent several emails and Booking.com did not help just kept saying to ring the owner. The situation has become even more upsetting as both Booking and the owner of the Mar Apartment are refusing to refund my money. Will never return to Stirling. Will never use Booking.com again. Awful experience.

    Stirling is a lovely area.

Stirling is a lovely area. The castle is really interesting but there is a lot of walking on cobbles. We are getting on a bit so found it a bit uphill and down dale but well worth a visit. 20 minutes drive from Stirling are The Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel. The Kelpies are amazing and if you book a tour they take you inside, a must for any engineer. Falkirk Wheel is more interesting watching from outside but is an absolute master in engineering. Stirling town centre had a lovely shopping Mal we just found it busy and difficult to park.

Stirling is my home town, but I have lived in the Highlands...

Stirling is my home town, but I have lived in the Highlands for many years now and always enjoy returning. I cannot see it through the eyes of a stranger, but I am proud of what it has to offer. You are literally walking through history on the streets of the upper town below the castle. Climb the Wallace monument and enjoy views from Edinburgh in the east to Argyll in the west. Play golf on one of the finest courses in Scotland with lovely views over the Carse. I could go on. Stirling is a must-see for visitors to Scotland.

Good value. Typical student accommodation with communal kitchen. Excellent shower. Although couple of miles from Stirling centre there are plenty of buses to the university. Recommend you get off at first stop and walk up to the accommodation area rather than get off at bus hub. Alternative to bus into Stirling is to walk to Bridge of Allan (about 20-25 minutes away) and take a train to Stirling or onwards to Glasgow or Edinburgh. Good pub (though not cheap) next to the university entrance. Also easy walk to Wallace Monument.

Had garden room on lower ground floor, which has window view onto front garden. Room large, tastefully furnished with large modern shower in bathroom. Spotlessly clean and we were provided with free snack that were always renewed! Staff very friendly yet professional at all times. Ate in hotel restaurant both nights of our stay and enjoyed dinner from varied menu; a great place to relax after a day’s sightseeing. Easy access to city centre and an uphill climb to Stirling Castle, which is a must see! Highly recommended.

Castlecroft has an excellent location with a pleasant walk into the city centre and easy access to the castle. It is close to the main routes into Stirling and easy to find. Laura is a really charming and helpful host. She serves a terrific breakfast with good choice. Her recommendations for places to eat were appreciated. We had our own small patio outside- a lovely feature Parking at the B&B is straightforward and really useful. Soundproofing between rooms was excellent- it was very quiet.

Everything about Springfield Lodge was ideal. The hosts are wonderful - very helpful & personable. Our room was spacious - beautifully decorated and very clean. The whole property is immaculate. The surrounding area is pastoral & quiet, yet close enough to everything a visitor would want to do. The bathroom had a tub & shower - amazing! Breakfast was a full, hot meal - delicious. It is a tremendous value. We will definitely recommend it to anyone traveling to Scotland. Thank you Kevin & Kim.

A fantastic B and B with a superb host in Laura. Extremely comfortable, very clean and a brilliant location. The lounge was a beautiful added bonus with tea, coffee and treats always available. Breakfast was fab with home made bread. We didn't eat till evening after breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble and Laura ensured we were happy from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. We didn't want to leave. If you need somewhere to stay in Stirling you must come here.

Richard and his team made us feel welcome and comfortable the minute we arrived. The room was beautiful and comfortable..the view of Stirling Castle was a bonus! From in room snacks to guest umbrellas, The Allan Park goes above and beyond with hospitality. We walked to the castle in about 20 minutes, and it was an easy walk to downtown. Saving the best for last: the food was delicious. We ended up eating here 3 times during our stay because the food was so good!

The staff were as helpful as could be and very pleasant, the rooms comfortable, light and traditional. The building location is wonderful for visiting Stirling and of course the magnificent Stirling Castle. We spent 3-4 hours at the castle and enjoyed every moment. Alva Glen is just down the road from Broomhall Castle and provides a wonderful up hill walk and fabulous views over the surrounding areas. We really enjoyed our two night stop here.

Location is perfect for Stirling as it is right in the city centre and walking distance to everywhere. Room was a bit tired decor-wise but clean and comfortable and we had a large room with a proper seating area which was a nice addition and bed was comfortable. Reception staff were helpful with parking options as the hotel car park was full by the time we arrived. Breakfast was self serve, buffet style and you could eat as much as you wanted.

This hotel was nicely located. The hotel was clean but old looking. At the time that I was visiting, it was considered Scotlands summer time (July). This hotel does NOT have AIR CONDITION. The rooms were hot. We requested a fan and that fan was our life saver during the night. I highly recommend Stirling Highland invest in outfitting their hotel with AC.

The room was comfortable and spacious , if somewhat far away from entrance! The bathroom was large and well appointed. The hotel is well placed in the historic area of Stirling and the parking is an extra bonus. The hill from the town centre is quite steep but as you notice the various historic buildings and the views , you do not notice the incline.
