Stornaway is a pleasant port town with a laid back feel and some industrial areas and parts that could do with a spruce up. The towns got plenty of supermarkets & independents too as well as plenty of restaurants & takeaways. Travelling around Lewis & Harris is best done by car, but it is possible to use the buses to visit lots of places too. Just double check your times with the drivers. The beaches are stunning!

Small historic town, that is the ideal for travelling to Harris. There are a few historic sites to see but some of them were not open when we visited. Sunday very quiet with nothing open or available to do. Great place to go for a relaxing retreat.

The shops in Stornoway were super with a good range of things to choose from. We visited the butcher, the charity shops, the deli, the new Co-op supermarket, tweed shops, Tourist Information and Taigh Ceilidh where we received a very warm welcome.

We were very lucky with the weather given the time of year. Stunning beaches and very interesting historical sites. Enjoyed eating out and had excellent meals. the hotel is fine the staff are good prices a bit high but that is standard for the island. my only problem is a slight health issue and with the very steep stairs and the rooms all upstairs i found this a problem but the hotel is ok.

Don't bother with Stornoway itself ( apart from the castle).

Don't bother with Stornoway itself ( apart from the castle). The shopping is poor and it's very difficult to eat out on a Sunday or Monday. Most restaurants are closed! SO BOOK if you can !( We don't think they want to encourage tourists!) Do go to the Black House village and the standing stones. Really interesting. We were looking for wildlife but it was minimal. We were only there 2 full days but wished we were back on Uist!!

A lovely cosy cottage, warm and welcoming with lovely extras such as fruit, homemade biscuits, milk in the fridge and chocolates by the beds. Angus and his family were perfect hosts as well as their two delightful labradors. Ample supply of logs and coal helped to add warmth inside whilst the wind howled and the rain fell outside! Easy access to Stornoway as well as a great base to explore the island as well as visit my friend’s brother in Stornoway. Thank you for a wonderful week and we will definitely return.

Nice B&B, all that you need you will have. The host Helen is supportive and super friendly. Some rooms have an ocean/harbour view. The living room is superb, furnished in style. The fireplace and large window with sea view. The bathroom is external, very spacious with shower and separate bath. The house's internal decor is modern with an old fashioned scent. Suburb of Stornoway, 5 min drive to center, plenty of parking are good. You can see highland cattle nearby or deer in a field if lucky. Pet friendly.

Very clean, comfortable, very good breakfast, good location( 10 min from Stornoway center). We were impressed how kind was the host. She gave us a lot of information about the island, she got up early in the morning( 5 a.m) to prepare us breakfast as we had our ferry by that time, she was always smiling and very attentive. We felt very well treated and we strongly recommend this accommodation.

This is a lovely B&B on a quiet side street in the heart of Stornoway. Minutes to walk anywhere in town. Lovely room in a building a few doors away from the main building. This location has a full communal kitchen and lounge area. Ownership changed while we were there and both former and new owners are lovely and super helpful. Breakfasts delicious!

What a wee gem of a place! Shona was so friendly and kind. Breakfast was delicious, decor gorgeous. Beds were comfy and location is great (right in town, across from ferry, close to everything). Owners were so sweet, they even gave me a hot water bottle when I'd made myself too cold walking in the rain. I will 100% stay here again next time I'm in stornoway.
