there are beautiful beach walks in the area but it takes some driving to get to them. It is a major golfing destination so very good for that. We are not golfers.
We had a good time there with good beach walks. It is a remote area. We would have no reason to return.

The perfect base for exploring North Donegal, close enough to Glenveagh National Park, Fanad lighthouse (via Harry Blaney Bridge) and Inishowen Peninsula (via ferry from Rathmullan)
Ards Forest Park (and Friary) only 20 mins away is well worth a visit, the coastal walk from Friary leads to the most spectacular secluded beaches
There are two wonderful beaches, Tra Beag in the town and Tra Mor just outside.
Plenty of places to eat with two hotels in the village, plus Fisks for Sea food, The Galley for Gourmet Burgers, Goose and Gander for Pizza, as well as the Singing Pub just outside the village (Steak on the Stone)

The beaches were beautiful, you could go for lovely long walks, and with 2 dogs with us, this was great. Ards Forest Park was lovely and worth many visits. We ate in the Singing Pub a number of times, food was excellent. Takeaways from the Goose and Gander very good. Golf at Rosapenna Golf Courses challenging and enjoyable. Altogether a great week in Downing’s. We will be back, hopefully.

We had a lovely time in Downings except for the weather but as we are from Belfast we are used to it. It is a very scenic place very down with nature which is a lovely change. There are very few shops most of the town seems to be closed which is a pity. Having transport is a must, you can travel around, we weren't able to see things due to the weather but there is nothing you can do about that.
This little apartment is situated in the centre of Downings directly beside all amenities and bars and restaurants. The apartment had everything we needed and an extremely comfy bed to boot. The host had provided some butter, dilute, biscuits coffee even some cereals. Couldnt have asked for better. At first, we were dubious about the outdoor shower but worked pretty well it was dry on our stay so no worry about rain, and not to mention the water was really hot which I love.
The house exceeded expectations. The location was great and so central for touring Donegal. There were lots of lovely restaurants just a 15 minute walk away in Downings. The host left all the basics; tea, coffee, milk, bread, oil etc. which was really helpful. We were in cottage 1 with the most amazing view! We didnt want to leave.
Everything. Heather and all the other staff we came into contact with were fantastic. Location is out of way of the town slightly but a 7/8 min drive in your car or same in a taxi gets you into Downings itself.
It’s relaxing and location is fantastic for just chilling. Il def be back
