This property was exceptional in every way. Spacious rooms with with comfortable beds and a great breakfast. The property was reconstructed in May, 2023 and extremely well done. We were able to explore the grounds of the farm. There are a number of paths and areas to relax. Our host was most gracious. She only speaks Portuguese but after downloading a translator and with the help of her daughter, we were easily able to communicate. Good roads, not far off the main highway and a great value.

I liked that the place is small and quiet. The fireplace was a hit and hot... there is a bar for drinks and good food. Nice breakfast.

This house is very clean and comfortable. Everything you might need. modern bathrooms. The owner is very helpful. The people in the village are very nice. We used the train in and Taxis to get back from Fundao. We even walked into Fundao one day 2 miles.
This restored 19th-century manor house has an outdoor pool and shaded terrace with views of the Serra de Estrela Mountains.

This property is situated in a small village which is a good starting point for the route of the historical villages. Despite the language barrier, as we do not speak Portuguese, we had no problem communicating. Our host Laura Mendes is a charming, attentive person who makes the best coffee in Portugal and a good breakfast. Her son who speaks English helped us when we arrived with all of the information. Provisions can be found in the village or close by at Orca, there is a small grocery and restaurant or there is the town of Lardosa not too far.
Quinta de São Marcos is a recently renovated country house in Fundão where guests can make the most of its outdoor swimming pool, garden, and barbecue facilities.
We live in vale de Prazeres! And chose to stay locally for a treat (having lots of animals at home 2km away, it was both practical and pleasant).
Vale de Prazeres is worth a stay and has all the facilities you might need -- bakery, pharmacy, Post office (with external ATM machine), shop, hair-dresser, restaurant and various cafe/bars.
It's a good choice as a base for travelling about and getting to know the wider area and there are many walks/hikes you can do around the locale.

Vale de Prazeres is a typical, quite characterful and pleasant Portuguese village with a good complement of bar/cafes, a restaurant, pharmacy, bakery, mini-market, post office, ATM, hairdresser. In short has everything needed even if you are staying without transport for a few days or longer. It's worth a walk through the winding small streets and around the local minor roads and pathways. There is a train station about a kilometer from the center, which could allow easy access to the regional cities of Fundao (15 min), Covilha (25 min) and Castelo Branco (about 30 min) and various other smaller local villages on the train route, which is useful if you don't have your own car... although the daily trains are not numerous so you need to plan ahead. Visiting (or living in) Vale de Prazeres is bit of a 'step back in time' where you can still buy coffee and cakes, or perhaps a 'mini' (25cl beer) and tosta mista (ham and cheese toasted sandwich), or maybe an iced-tea and empada (little chicken pie) and still have change from 5 euros -- even in 2023 (time of writing)!! (p.s. I've lived here over 10 years so I know whereof I speak :D).
