It cost me $175 to valet park next to the hotel. I was told that if I parked it myself it would be $18 but it would be subject to double charges and cost more. We walked everywhere and never saw our car until we checked out.
Charleston is an old city and there are many uneven sidewalks.
The historic area streets could use some cleaning and maybe flowers and shade trees. Very unattractive.
walking tours, fort sumpter were great. Loved the city market.
May restaurants overpriced and just so so. One gem was the BBQ place near the city market.
If I were to return I’d stay in a more modern hotel in the historic district.

We enjoyed our trip to Charleston.
We enjoyed our trip to Charleston. We did a 2 hour walking tour through the city and it was very interesting. Our tour guide, Fran, with Bulldog Tours was very knowledgeable and passionate about the city. Loved seeing The Battery and all of the beautiful historic homes. These homes have the most beautiful window boxes filled with flowers. We also did a harbor cruise with Harbour Tours which was very informative. We got right up to the USS Yorktown. There is an abundance of restaurants and bars to choose from. We went to Rue de Jean and Coast Bar and Grill. Both were located in Hutson's Alley. Good food and reasonable prices. If you love to shop you have to go to King Street. There were many boutiques and high-end shops. Lots of places to eat or stop for a drink or coffee. Charleston is a very walkable city, and we definitely got our miles in! Now that I am more familiar with certain parts of the city I would try other small hotels on our next visit.

Charleston is always a delightful visit.
Charleston is always a delightful visit. The hotel was close to the venue for a wedding (Charlestown Landing at the Legare Waring House). Charlestown Landing, with the gorgeous azaleas and other flowers in full bloom, was breathtaking and the perfect setting for the outdoor wedding under the ancient live oaks that epitomize quintessential Charleston. The hotel was conveniently located to various restaurants (Boxcar Betty's did run out of chicken Friday evening so go early!) in the area and was very easy to maneuver with GPS. Stella's is a great restaurant featuring Greek cuisine and you're hard pressed to find better, fresher oysters (and other delicious fare) than at the Darling Oyster Bar.

It’s a beautiful historic city.
It’s a beautiful historic city. If you are downtown there is a free bus and it is easy to walk to many sites. We had a wonderful dinner to celebrate a special birthday at Halls Chop House, expensive but worth it. Also had a delightful lunch at Magnolia. Everything was crowded and expensive. Reservations at popular places are a must even on weekdays in April!

Plan on doing some walking.
Plan on doing some walking. We enjoyed a horse-drawn carriage tour - an hour long, $50, well worth it, and a great tour guide. Shopping at the Marketplace is a must, 3 blocks of warehouse buildings full of unusual items. The Waterfront is a beautiful walk, as is Rainbow Row (a collection of pastel colored homes). We had Lunch at Magnolia's at the bar, which was Outstanding. We spent our first afternoon at Boone Plantation - HIGHLY Recommended! Beautiful gardens, "Entrance of Oaks", a Cafe' on site, and a Tractor tour of the property, all wonderful. If you can only do 1 plantation, this one is CLOSE, 20 minutes from downtown, and beautiful.
staff was wonderful, very clean hotel. The room was perfect, tall shower and bathroom was spotless! recommend this place and will stay again. if you are like me and look for reviews I can attest you will not be disappointed. seems to be a new hotel. big variety spread for free breakfast. perfect for anyone traveling! Just around corner to the convention center. 15 min from downtown Charleston Market, 30 min to IOP beach. I didn’t take photos but I assure you it’s great as I’m a person who research as you are doing now.
Fantastic hotel with an even better staff! The perfect blend of elegance and comfort. Thoughtful details throughout such as arrival cocktails and nice beverages & snacks in the room & Dyson hair dryers. The rooms were as comfortable as they were beautiful. We loved the location. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. The breakfast included was excellent as well. We’ve found our new favorite hotel downtown Charleston!
The thing I liked most was how clean my room was, as well as the rest of the hotel. The breakfast was very good with a lot of options to choose from. The location was good. Within walking distance to several restaurants and close to both Downtown Charleston and the beaches. The room, elevators, and hallways smelled fresh. The pool was sparkling clean. I would definitely recommend this hotel!
Great apartment style accommodations in a wonderful downtown Charleston location close to great shopping and restaurants. The apartment has limited but sufficient kitchen items for serving breakfast, coffee and snacks. It has been better equipped in the past so it is best to bring items you need if cooking. Beds are really comfortable.
Location was good. Easy access to downtown Charleston. Tourist information centre a few blocks away at the Fire Museum was excellent! You can book most of your tours from that location.
Buffet breakfast was very good, and the staff were pleasant and attentive.
Plenty of "free" parking.
I have stayed at this particular hotel in the past mainly because of the location to the downtown historic area of Charleston. I kinda like the separation of the entry area and then having the bedroom upstairs. The staff has always very friendly and helpful when necessary.
The location was perfect to folly beach, downtown Charleston the apartment very easy to find. Lovely neighborhood. Welcome goodies on the countertop. Paul was very responsive to a question we had.
Definitely recommend The Gray Heron House. We hope to return in the future.
Parking lot is very convenient and cost $20 a day
Lobby and Atrium are very relaxing spots to enjoy the well done Happy Hour and breakfast
Hotel is located close to bus stops and is walking distance to many of the attractions in Charleston
and top notch restaurants
Lovely modern spacious hotel - quick drive to historic district which didn't bother us. Close to beaches and lots of restaurant choices, shopping near by. No breakfast served but staff gave us amazing recommendations for places that were local & excellent!
We stayed at the Francis Marion for two nights and really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is positioned perfectly to be able to explore Charleston on foot. The restaurant provides breakfast which we found to be very good.
Nice enough room, easy check in and grand for an overnight stay in Charleston - good location for the airport, but a little bit out of the Downtown to go in and come back to get changed before dinner.
We were impressed, hotel is super clean and personal is so friendly, very convenient location in downtown of Charleston but it was quiet, breakfast was also very good!
Highly recommend that hotel!
This hotel is in the heart of the Charleston historic district, close to the Market, the carriage ride barns, and many shops and restaurants. The rooms are newly renovated and very comfortable.
Great location just outside of Charleston. Sophisticated hotel with clean room and beautiful common area where every need the traveller can have is taken care of. Great breakfast. Dog friendly.
So close to Shemp Creek area. Just right over the bridge from downtown Charleston. Great location for the money. The hotel staff were top notch. Super nice
Had a great stay at this hotel. The facility was clean and not to far from downtown Charleston. The staff was friendly and my room was relatively clean.
