This is a remarquable place. Located 20 km off the Road, middle in the nature. Marie and Marco run this place with great passion. Because of its location, they offer dinner together with all guess whitch is very cummunicative and you learn a lot about the nature. Great place.

Beautiful room, really well decorated with artwork, well spaced out and nice touches. One of the best sleeps we had during our trip. Hosts were welcoming and brought us an umbrella in case we needed as was raining hard. In the morning they had left out a flask of hot water for tea and coffee because there had been a power outage. Would not stay anywhere else in the area but here again. We were not expecting it to be this good as had just booked a few hours before when realising it was getting late and we were not going to make it to next town - so glad we did.

The primary reason for choosing here was that a restaurant was mentioned so we could eat onsite and not have to find dinner in Calitzdorp elsewhere. Fortunately although I missed the text message asking if we wanted dinner it had been anticipated - and was really good, well presented home cooking with generous portions and very delicious! So was breakfast too! Our hosts were very welcoming and we enjoyed talking and sharing experiences of travels around the world. The guesthouse felt very much like a traditional SA family home and was located well off the main road up a dirt road - however this gave it a good location overlooking the nearby vineyards and the Swartberg mountains. Just a pity that the weather was not great and we didn't have the opportunity to sit on the terrace with a drink.

What a fantastic place, maybe the best place we have stayed in Southafrica. You can sit all day and Fall into trance over the view from the cottages. Magical. The cottages are comfortable and so well designed that you think you are in a classy hotel, but with personality. And a perfect personal service fron Gondwyn. And then all the things you can do, swim in the river, padle the canoe/kayak for free or take beautifull walks. Or just sit on the veranda and enjoy. Highly recommended. We were there for 5 days. We received a very warm welcome. The old schoolhouse is secluded in the mountains. Bronwyn and Colin have lovingly renovated and furnished it. We slept with the window open and enjoyed the peace and seclusion. There are several marked hiking trails, the river for swimming and boats for paddling. Our children loved the chickens, which they were allowed to feed. They are very tame and let themselves be stroked. Thank you all! We had a great time!

I LOOOVED the Calitz! The host “Angela” was super friendly, helpful and easygoing. She even helped me print out some documents I needed and gave me some recommendations for other accommodation (they were booked full over the weekend, so I had to check out) and things to do in Calitzdorp. Then, when I checked out, she even offered to drive me there! The guesthouse itself is fantastic! Super clean (they clean the rooms every 2 days and try to time it so as not to disturb you at all, i.e. when you're out), well designed matching interior and exterior aesthetic perfectly suited to the long history of the town, and even includes a pool and huge lounge with fully-equipped kitchen, braai area and fenced-in parking. You can also order meals via the menu they provide, although I never got to try that because The Calitz is so close to town, I found myself walking there to sample the local cuisine and do shopping several times a day. The WiFi is also excellent, and the rooms are aptly named after different types of wine. It is also one of the quietest guesthouses I have ever stayed in - just what I needed after 3 days of stressful flights! Surprisingly, the Calitz also appears to be the most affordable accommodation in the whole of Calitzdorp, at least when I booked in (it cost me literally almost half of what most of the guesthouses that are slightly closer cost, and one of the other guests mentioned this to me too.) Now I only WISH I had booked for the weekend as well! I would have stayed there for 2 weeks at least! P.S. I made a video walkthrough of The Calitz. Look out for it in YouTube soon!) ~Don

Excellent stay, very friendly and helpful lady at the reception which helped us to book a very nice restaurant in town and had some good recommendations on wine tasting Also we had a free upgrade 😀

Location is very convenient as it's pretty much walking distance (if you want to brave the heat) from the lovely Station pub and De Kranz winery and the other wineries. Bed was comfortable. There was a coffee machine in the room and the host provided complimentary bottled drinking water as the tap water is not drinkable. Lovely towels. Hot water worked well in our shower. Breakfast was really good - fruit/muesli yoghurt, followed by pancakes and then a cooked breakfast which was very well executed. There was private parking inside the property behind an electric gate and suitable for high/overlanding vehicles too. There is no backup power during loadshedding but portable lights are provided in the room. There are mesh in front of the windows to keep mozzies out. Host was welcoming and informative about the area.

Perfect stopover on our trip through Calitzdorp. Great hosts
