Gray Whales pass by during their migration and Pilot Whales live in the area year-round! The nearest beach access is just a block away. There is an access road that leads down to Preston Island. This is a rocky beach for the most part but there are sandy stretches for a pleasant walk with your pet (which we are happy to host!). Enjoy the majesty of the waves crashing against the nearby rocks and cliffs! The nearest swimming/surfing beach is Crescent Beach just about a 5-minute drive away! My wife and I love traveling, reading, dancing, good wine, and discovering new friends! I am sometimes out of town but I will always be available by phone, email, or text message. I also have several reliable people in town who can be there in person if necessary in the event that I cannot be there myself.

Only 20 miles south of Oregon, sea-faring Crescent City is home to the northernmost of California’s lighthouse stations. Overlooking the town’s harbor, the 1856 Battery Point Lighthouse, built with 22-inch-thick slabs of granite, sits on a tiny island that can only be reached on foot at low tide. A few miles away is Crescent City’s other lighthouse at St. George Reef, 6 miles offshore. After getting your fill of lighthouses, wander the Crescent City waterfront. On the town’s west end is ocean-front Pebble Beach Drive with easy access to Pebble Beach, a great place to search for agates and other semi-precious gemstones. Hugging California’s north-western edge, a network of parks protecting nearly half of the world’s coast redwoods, the world’s tallest living things, which grow over 350 feet high. But there are more than giant trees in this lush land. Here, majestic (and big) Roosevelt elk graze in grassy prairies. Wild beaches are dotted with weathered driftwood, not a footprint in sight, and rivers tumble into the sea. Three state parks—Jedediah Smith, Del Norte Coast, and Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park—offer a remarkable number of ways to explore, learn and discover.
