Do not go during the weekend!
Do not go during the weekend! On a saturday night, the path towards the top is very crowded with locals. We started at 1 am, and still did not reach the top. Close to the top, the line did not move at all anymore. Amazing sunrise though :)

we arrived on a wet day. started at 3am but unfortunately for us the weather did not clear and we had misty cloud all the way up. we arrived 2 hours later at the top and waited for the sunrise. it came but we still had no view. thats the risk you take. we are in our 60's and would not recommend this climb for those who are not fit.the stairs are all well made, all concrete, but they are straight up. we like the exercise but this is by far the hardest climb we have done. we will try again on our next visit... hard on the knees coming down

Adam's Peak is definitely worth the climb.
Adam's Peak is definitely worth the climb. It's only challenging because it's a long climb but otherwise can be done by anyone as its pretty much a staircase all the way to the top. Definitely worth it for sunrise - get there really early to beat the crowds! Gets very very busy at the top so getting there with plenty of time to spare before sunrise would be worth it. Go during the week when it's less packed with locals. Sometimes there's also free breakfast (rice and curry, tea and coffee) at the top which is a very nice local addition to a mountain climb!

If you like a challenge (and mind you, it really is a challenge) try and tackle Adam's Peak from the traditional side of the path, the side starting from the Ratnapura side. A massive climb of stairs brings your from the lowland jungle, through the high forests all the way to the top. (about 6-8 hours) Brilliant scenery guarenteed. Very quiet (unless you go in February during the pilgrimage season), chances of seeing wildlife (elephants even) and a general feeling of remoteness. Best to descent on the Hatton side though, or be prepared to sleep somewhere on/around the peak..

Be prepared, take warm clothing - very windy on top section, give yourself enough time to get up and back down, take a Head torch - to keep both hands free.
Views are well worth the trouble reaching the summit.

The staff, Manu in particular, are fantastic. Manu took care of us the whole time making sure we had lots of tips for our Adam’s Peak hike, that the room was ok and that we were taken care of for dinner and breakfast. He’s fantastic! The hotel is a little simple, but very reasonably priced and just what we were looking for.
Had a really pleasent stay. The location of the hotel was perfect for us as we went to Adam’s Peak at 2 am. The room was nice and clean and had blanket (which was the first time for me in Sri Lanka). When we came back from the mountain, then hotel served us very delicious breakfast. Really loved staying there.
Close to Adam’s Peak starting point. Friendly staff! It’s more like a restaurant that also had a few rooms available, more than a real hostel or something. Cosy but comfortable bed for the few hours of sleep you will have. Great food; after climbing the Adam’s peak they asked us what we wanted to eat for breakfast! No additional costs.
Amazing family run hotel who couldn’t do enough for you, we really enjoyed our stay. Nice food and perfect location to climb Adam’s peak. Room was huge, clean and tidy and comfortable bed! Thanks so much.
The owner was incredibly kind and helpful. We had some transportation-problems, so we didn’t end up at the hotel until 4 in the morning. Miraculously he woke, took us in and gave us tea.
The rice and curry was delicious.
He offered transportation to Adam’s Peak and Hatton station.
The VIEW was absolutely beautiful.
This was one of the best places we stayed in Sri Lanka. The location was perfect for climbing Adam’s peak and Ruwan was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The accommodation is very clean and comfortable and has good views of the mountains. We were cooked two delicious home cooked Sri Lankan meals whilst we were there. We could not recommend water side residence more if you are climbing adams peak.
The room was clean and spacious and the location quite good to start the hiking to Adam’s peak. If you go there by bus you can ask the driver to stop in front of the hotel because it’s exactly on the bus route, not far from the main bus station. If you want to enjoy the landscape ask for a room upstairs, otherwise you will be overlooking a not nice spot.
I think this is the best place to stay before hiking to the Adam’s Peak. The hotel is so Loren and European, which is different from most other places in Sri Lanka. The room was very nice and cozy, we loved it immediately and prices are reasonable.
Also the stuff was so helpful and friendly, they gave us tips for climbing the Peak and fed us even though we were so late after resting from the climbing at night. Highly recommend this place.
Btw the view from the balcony was amazing, we even could see the Peak itself!
