Our four night stay was the highlight of our two week visit to Scotland.

In the heart of Shetland, St Magnus Bay Hotel is set in beautiful, tranquil surroundings. It was once frequented by W. H. Auden and Christopher Isherwood, the poet and playwright. The stay was An idyllic visit to the northern windy Shetlands. Our hosts Andrea and Paul were so helpful and pleasant and adept at steering us in the hiking pathways we wanted. The pub was welcoming every evening for a relaxation and the dinners were wholesome and tasty esp the carvery on Sunday. The lamb roast was perfection. We will return along with the birds.

Overlooking the shore of Busta Voe, on mainland Shetland, Busta House is a lovely old building with en suite bedrooms, large garden and superb local food. Offering free WiFi throughout the property, Queens Hotel is set in Lerwick, within a few steps of Bain's Beach. The nearest airport is Sumburgh Airport, 42 km from the hotel. It is perfectly situated. This grand beautiful historic building is being renovated by the present owners. I had a room with a sea view which was magnificent. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. I loved the towel warmer and excellent water pressure in the shower. The staff were amazing. Sam, the owner’s son, went above the call of duty to provide towels and vacuum the sand I tracked into the room. Harvey, the owner, was fantastic! He even gave me a ride to the bus station. If you are interested in historic preservation this is the hotel for you. It sits actually into the sea next to Bain’s Beach. I had a fabulous week at the Queens Hotel.
