One last thing don't forget that while on the island you will need cash to pay for tours and and your accommodation. Tanna Island needs to be on everyones bucket list and the Castle Tree House is the place to stay for a back to basics experience.

I spent three days in this gorgeous place, not only doing the Tanna Island top sights (Mt Yasur volcano, Blue Cave, traditional village tour and the Giant Banyan tree), but simply spending time around the resort by the pool with a book or snorkelling off the front cliffs. Silvana and John are absolutely beautiful hosts with their care and attention for the experience of your own and other guests with the island and Vanuatu as a whole.

I believe they offered lunch as well but I was going on these great adventures they offer to guide you through: -A local village that will show you dances and rituals of their indigenous culture -A hot spring heated river that flows into the ocean overlooking the volcano -And of course, the hike to the rim of the volcano. I had so much time to chat with the family and they are all so kind. I don’t leave reviews, I was very compelled on this one. Stay in this treehouse. As we were travelling on a budget and keen to meet the locals Alofa Beach bungalows was the perfect balance of comfort and friendly hospitality. Simple, relaxing and authentic looking bungalows with ensuite, running water and hot showers. The host were lovely and ready to help with whatever we needed. The food was nice. Pancakes for breakfast :) The bungalows are near a long stretch of coral strewn beach typical of Vanuatu and close to the local village. Perfect alternative to the resorts if you're after a more authentic experience.
