The location was lovely - a very quiet village high in the hills. The host family were lovely and kind. It is worth noting that the Guest House does not do food. I brought my own.

I liked the free parking in front of the hotel and the restaurant open until 10 p.m. The room was quite small but comfortable with new furniture. The staff was very kind. The hotel is in a good position between Plovdiv and Veliko Tarnovo in particular if you visit the Buzludzha communist monument. We had a great dinner and a great breakfast in the fashion main lounge which is fantastic if you don't want to leave the hotel and look for food.

The village is a very typical, rural Bulgarian place, nestled in between heavily wooded hills. It has a lovely little church of particular historical significance but our stay was simply too short to fully appreciate all that the area has to offer. We shall have to return one day to catch up on what we missed.
We chose to have dinner in Bozhentsi, a few kms away from Subotkovtsi, as the village didn't have any facilities open to offer this service at that late hour and we had forgotten to organise dinner at the guesthouse. Driving in the area in the dark is quite a challenge because of the narrow roads and streets, and the dark woods can be a bit overwhelming for non-seasoned drivers. A 4x4 vehicle would be a good choice to travel in!
