Atleast a table top stove as the establishment is self catering. The hot plate provided limited us with regards to cooking.

The fabulous hosts made me feel welcome, spoilt, and cared for, even before I arrived. They really go the extra mile. I loved having breakfast in the garden. Honeysuckle is a short walk from the town centre, and far enough away to be a haven away from it. They have contingencies for water and power cuts. Thank you.

No breakfast provided so can't comment on that.
Rooms were clean, beds comfortable, off-street parking secure.
One of the best destinations in South Africa. The town lies amidst beautiful sandstone mountains, it has excellent restaurants and very interesting little shops. There are so many activities in the area like walking, mountain biking, quad biking and horse riding to name just a few. It is really a small town with a big heart!

The town has a number of interesting shops for homeware, clothing and home-produced preserves and food stuffs. There is a good range of restaurants and we enjoyed our meals at Clementine's, Gosto and the Clarens Brewery. Most places are to be found around the central grassy square and they are very easy to access..

Clarens is over commercialised.
Clarens is over commercialised. It mostly consists of numerous shops consisting of items you can find in many other places. The Emporium was a favourite. Excellent owner with a lot of details on the figuribes sold there. I thoroughly enjoyed buying my Burmese figure there. The art galleries are a must. Personally Clarens for me is more of a stop to go hiking and go to Golden Gate. It is too busy, bad roads - and I am used to potholes. The Protea hotel in the middle of town was a let down. Such a big hotel in nature was unnecessary. If you want to walk and just look at shops the town will work for you. Personally for me this is a good area to stop and go hiking and take a break from the city but other than that not somewhere I will visit frequently.

The hiking trails around Clarens are very well worth while doing and are not too strenuous, provided that you keep to the ones lower down the mountainside.
The town square is where it all happens and is a lovely buzz. Food outlets are good and plentiful.
Wonderful experience! The food was terrific and each staff member onsite was helpful, friendly, and welcoming.
Phenomenal service!
The location was perfectly situated in Clarens square, making it simple to park the car at the hotel and walk around to different shops and sights.
The poolside was relaxing and worth those chilled days when you didn't want to explore, but rather relax at the hotel.
It was luxurious, and peaceful and made it hard to leave.
GPS coordinates only take you to the Clarens golf estate gate when you should actually drive another 14 km on the R 712 if not mistaken to see the farm board on your right hand side coming from Clarens towards Golden gate. Within 2 hours off reaching this destination I KNEW that I KNEW I am on HOLIDAY. I did not want to leave the lodge, all was great for body, mind and soul and spirit. Thank you for sharing this fully equipped property with your guest.
The breakfast was excellent. It was served outside in a lovely garden.
The kitchen was well-equipped, and the hosts left milk, water, home made rusks.
The location was easy to find and close to the center of Clarens.
The hostess, Mercia, was extraordinarily gracious. We thoroughly enjoyed talking with her. Our stay there was the last night in S. Africa and my birthday and Mercia made it memorable!
The host, Lindsey, is absolutely amazing!
The bed was comfy and came with electric blankets (and water bottles) for the cold winter nights in Clarens:)
Rechargeable LED lanterns (for when Eskom disappoints)
The location was perfect - just a short distance from the town centre
Family friendly place (large boma area and braai facilities), and pet friendly
WiFi was great
The location was excellent. Close enough for a quick walk in to the center of Clarens but far enough away not to be disturbed by the all the hustle and bustle. Johan and Tim were excellent hosts and breakfast was always a real treat! Yummy food, excellent views and attention to detail! Would love to visit again soon.
Very friendly front desk's staff and waiters. George was so kind to us. Always guiding where possible and informative. Chefs were so friendly. Food was nice. Most items are of the 5 star hotel.
View from the room and the lobby gives an opportunity to see Clarens.
Definitely sure, a place to stay again when in the area
The place is newly built and is very neat and clean. Beautiful interior. Bed was very comfortable. The guesthouse is within walking distance from town. Beautiful bathroom with large bath. It was very cold in Clarens but there was a heater and electric blanket which made it very nice inside the room.
Excellent, safe location. Secure parking. Il Castello is a genuinely unusual hotel: a Tuscan castle sitting in the middle of the South African mountains. The room was spacious with two balconies. The bed was very comfortable. Attentive staff. Great food.
Sumptous breakfast, Excellent host. Spacious room. Well geared for a Free State winter with underfloor heating, electric blanket and a heated towel rail. The Guest house is also close to the attractions of Clarens. (Walking distnce in most cases)
Situated very close to the main square in Clarens, yet so peaceful, relaxing and quiet. The Butterfly Villa was very spacious and comfortable .Everything you need for self catering was provided. Will definately return.
Outstanding self catering accommodation. Excellently equipped with the finest detail. Beautiful garden and mountain views. Clarens on Collett invites you to take time off and relax. Just be in the moment.
The Hotel is new. It is exceptional with its design, art and decoration. Relaxed atmosphere. Very helpful staff. Not in the busy center of Clarens, but in walking distance. Close access to hiking trails.
We had a wonderful time! Il Castello is a beautiful boutique hotel and pictures cannot justify how great the property looks. Rooms are huge with wonderful views. Great service and attention to detail.
Everything, this place is a beautiful gem tucked away in beautiful Clarens, I would recommend it to anyone, anyday. And the creativity and layout of the studio was mind blowing.
Location, Rooms, Facilities. Very nice garden. They are pet friendly. Fran was also friendly and accommodating. Very nice lounge, dining room area and fully equipped kitchen.
