Room well suited for disability access but poorly located beside front door and in corridor leading to busy bar and busy rear conservatory areas. Hotel popular with local, noisy, rowdy young drinkers, all swearing loudly, females screaming at each other constantly rather than conversing naturally. Speaking as a mother of 2 students and former Secondary School Teacher this establishment’s bar guests did not represent themselves, the local neighbourhood, Scottish tourism positively and I would most certainly not recommend this establishment for families. The Guests in 2 other rooms, although situated on the upper floor were also unable to experience the relaxing Sat evening watching TV they had envisaged and like us, did not receive an apology the following day from those responsible for mismanaging the situation.MonicaUnited Kingdom - 10Scored 10
We had a family room that was quite spacious.
We had a family room that was quite spacious. The hotel is very easy to find and is a good break night if travelling further north. Although it is situated on the outskirts of town it is very quiet and peaceful with very good views. During our stay we ate in the hotel bar and found the menu selection to be the standard fayre expected on a pub menu. All well cooked and reasonably priced for a travelling family. The staff were polite and friendly.

It is a work in progress but that doesn't take away from the honest Scottish hospitality we received. Our room was clean and the beds very comfortable. We had a meal in the bar and it was exceptionally good, people at the next table were also really pleased with their food and portion size. We met the new owner and some of the staff. We wish them all well on their new venture.

Ishbel had left us milk, juice, bannock bread among many other home comforts. The local area is beautiful and the Clovenfords hotel also serves excellent food, so that’s also well worth a visit.
