Birr is a lovely town - we visited family and friends and spent some time exploring the town. We visited Birr Castle and gardens, which are spectacular. We were however disappointed that we could not visit the castle itself as it is a private residence. The town is very tidy and people are friendly.

We visited the castle grounds which were excellent and much better than we expected.
Town centre has everything and reasonable cafes. Lots of pubs but then it was Ireland! Restaurants a little harder to find.
Walks and good quiet cycling on your doorstep or a short drive.

Birr is a beautiful town. It's steeped in history. The period houses all around are stunning. Castle tour is highly recommended. Lot's to see and do there. Nolan's pub was very welcoming and a great pint to be had. Kelly's bar is great for food and old fashioned Irish atmosphere and pint of Guinness.

Birr Castle was an enjoyable venue for a day visit.
Birr Castle was an enjoyable venue for a day visit. We had dinner in a local bar/restaurant where the food was good and the staff were friendly. Birr is quite a small town and it can be visited over a two day period. It is also relatively close to the Slieve Blooms which is a good base for walking.

Birr is a nice small town with a lovely small park and river walk and a fabulous castle and grounds. Kinnity castle is a short drive away and the Slieve Bloom walking trails are worth a visit if you like hiking .
The whole experience of staying right in the heart of Birr the BnB is so well run spotless clean.... Nicer than some Hotels we have stayed in.... We were given free parking right outside our room, the local people are so welcoming and friendly we would highly recommend staying in Emmet house you won't be disappointed we had a lovely breakfast every morning and our host baked a lovely cake for her guests to help themselves to during their stay.
Our stay at Townsend House was wonderful! The room was beautiful- we stayed in the family suite which was spacious and very comfortable. The location was just perfect for exploring the small village of Birr- walking distance to the castle and town center. The staff were welcoming and the breakfast was delicious (and huge!). We were so happy with this stay and would definitely recommend it.

Beautiful period building, very tastefully decorated inside and out. Breakfast was fabulous, excellent choices on the menu, not just the usual “full Irish” or cereal and toast! Very conveniently located for the purpose of the visit (Birr Festival of Music). Staff exceptionally welcoming, friendly and helpful.
The location is wonderful as you can walk around the corner to the castle and for food. The Main Street is walkable too. Our room was clean, beautiful and quiet. We loved the high quality teas and toiletries. Breakfast in the amazing dining room was a treat with excellent service and lot of choices.
Having lived in Birr I had regularly passed Spinners and been curious about what it would be like to stay there. Happy to report it's a lovely hotel quite unique in its layout/design with quaint and very comfortable rooms.
The breakfast served was plentiful and delicious and the staff lovely too.
We stayed here for a family wedding, stayed 3 nights in total. Hotel was lovely, food in Bar62 was great.
The swimming pool was great, also able to use steam room and sauna. Gym had a good amount of equipment. Hotel had beautiful grounds and garden.
Lovely quiet location easy to walk to from Birr. Comfortable bed and the room was nice and clean. Carmel makes a sensational breakfast! Sausages were just the best and I loved her homemade scones too. Excellent value too, recommended.
very quaint, beautiful hotel, very close to being a B&B. The owners are very hardworking, nice, helpful and accommodating— which included insisting on taking our luggage up the stairs to our room. The Irish breakfast was delicious!
Brona was a wonderful host, and we had a very restful stay. The location is a short drive to Birr Castle and downtown, and Brona gave great lunch/dinner recommendations. Facilities were very clean, and the bed was so comfortable.
Amazing stay at what I can only call a gem in Birr Town. Everything is just a walk away and the house is beautiful with everything needed. Host was also amazing 😊Will definitely return 😊
The room was very comfortable with an en suite bathroom and plenty of room. The accommodation was in a great location for the wedding that we attended and for easy access into Birr.
Location in town and the staff are second to none. The town is underrated as a destination as there are many golf courses nearby and a visit to the castle is a must when in town,
Stayed 2 nights to go to a wedding. Beautiful rural location with very comfortable beds, sparkling clean and a delightful host. Brona was extremely kind and accommodating.
Carmel was a lovely host, she made us so welcome and had every detail covered, she even gave us a lift to Birr Town which we really appreciated. Thanks Carmel
