The fabulous hosts made me feel welcome, spoilt, and cared for, even before I arrived. They really go the extra mile. I loved having breakfast in the garden. Honeysuckle is a short walk from the town centre, and far enough away to be a haven away from it. They have contingencies for water and power cuts. Thank you.

Our accommodation at Andes was excellent, we will definitely return for a longer stay. We had a delicious dinner at Clementines, and thoroughly enjoyed a relaxed wander through the village the next morning.

Great location for walking with your fur baby.
Great location for walking with your fur baby. Several stores sell Clarence Conservancy permits and maps and the conservancy is well-maintained and marked so it's safe and easy to walk and hike. There are a number of restaurants and coffee shops so it's possible to skip the self-catering option.

One of the best destinations in South Africa.
One of the best destinations in South Africa. The town lies amidst beautiful sandstone mountains, it has excellent restaurants and very interesting little shops. There are so many activities in the area like walking, mountain biking, quad biking and horse riding to name just a few. It is really a small town with a big heart!

The town has a number of interesting shops for homeware, clothing and home-produced preserves and food stuffs. There is a good range of restaurants and we enjoyed our meals at Clementine's, Gosto and the Clarens Brewery. Most places are to be found around the central grassy square and they are very easy to access..

Clarens has its own special charm and uniqueness.
Clarens has its own special charm and uniqueness. People are friendly and one feels safe there. Its in beautiful surroundings and the shops around the square are very cool to walk around and just chill.
It was our second stay and hopefully not our last. What a wonderful place with everything you could possibly need. It is set on a very pretty farm and easy to reach Clarens or Bethlehem. Minda is amazing and does everything she can to make you feel at home. We were welcomed with delicious brownies waiting for us in our room and the fire all set up for us to light. They also have Braai meals you can pre-order to cook in your own private Braai complete with a beautifully made Salad and farm bread. Definitely a stop you need to make. Thank you.
The staff in the hotel are friendly and hard working. They attend to every need and always with a smile. Honourable mentions go out to George, Thabiso, Nkanyiso, Zack and Violet. The food at the hotel restaurant deserves special mention, every night we ate from the ala carte, chicken wings that are unique and you would expect from a place in New York, delicious and huge portions of lamb curry and oxtail. I was surprised and never disappointed each night.
GPS coordinates only take you to the Clarens golf estate gate when you should actually drive another 14 km on the R 712 if not mistaken to see the farm board on your right hand side coming from Clarens towards Golden gate. Within 2 hours off reaching this destination I KNEW that I KNEW I am on HOLIDAY. I did not want to leave the lodge, all was great for body, mind and soul and spirit. Thank you for sharing this fully equipped property with your guest.
The accommodation was spotlessly clean and very comfortable.
Everyone on the farm - even the dogs - are hospitable.
Their cheesecake is excellent, and the goat's milk cheeses should be tasted.
We enjoyed the hiking route on the farm and the beautiful braai facilities.
It is close enough to Clarens to go there as often as one likes but far enough away to enjoy much more than Clarens alone.
This hotel holds up standards equivalent to the 4 star hotels that I have visited. The rooftop view at their restaurant shows you Clarens’ beauty. The location is perfect because you’re near the inner city where the tourist fun is happening but you’re also far enough to not be bothered by the hustle and bustle in the city and nearby township. Pure bliss with excellent food.
Fabulous facilities, rooms done out very well especially the bathrooms. Decor is also lovely. The coffee pods, milk frothers, fresh milk and rusks are a lovely touch too. Really appreciate these in a hotel room. Breakfast was also good and the dining room has great views over the mountain. Overall a great, little hotel especially for the price. Loved it!
The rooms were very pretty and clean, and we had an awesome view from our deck. The lodge is just far away enough from Clarens for you to feel immersed in nature, but not so far that its infeasible to visit. The bunnies running around the lodge were also super cute!
Knowing Clarens as a tourists attraction place,it was very easy to enjoy the place as it is a Jewel of the Free State. We enjoyed the morning breeze;shopping and walking as well as other places of fun in the area.
Location excellent!! Lots of attention paid to small detail, e.g. fresh milk in the fridge, sweets, sherry. Beds/matrass top quality!! Home made breakfast the best that I've ever had at any hotel or B&B.
Excellent location. Less than a five minute walk to the town square (which is the center of everything in Clarens). Easy walk to hiking trails around the town. Cozy property. Good wifi. Pet friendly.
The location of Protea Hotel Clarens is excellent for a visit to the town.
The facilities are well kept, neat and tidy.
The staff is very friendly, helpful and efficient.
- The property was really clean and neat for pet friendly
- Kitchen had all utilities and dinning dishes needed
- Great location in Clarens, walking distance to the town
